BIO:

The world always seems to make way for the person who knows where they're going, and such is the case with this hot new artist. Windel Beneto Edwards, AKA: Gyptian, was born in the rural part of St. Andrew, Jamaica, in a town called King Weston on October 25th, 1983.  From the age of seven Gyptian has impressed audiences by performing solos in his mom's church, and singing his heart out at local Jamaican talent contests. Encouraged and supported by his family members to grow in his musical career, Gyptian came to Kingston and connected with renowned reggae musician, Earl China Smith. This connection sparked a re-make idea of Earl China Smith's song called "Serious Times", which he originaly produced in 1999. In 2004, after moving to Portmore, Jamaica, Gyptian won the 'Portmore Star Search Contest'. Shortly after, Gyptian was then hired by producer Kenneth 'Spragga' Wilson to voice the new version of "Serious Times". The tune became a 'serious hit' and shot to number one on Jamaican charts for the later part of 2005, and has carried it's way strongly all over the world through 2006. Ever since, Gyptian has followed through with more hit singles such as "What a Policy", "You Never Know", "Moma Don't Cry", and "If You Really Love Me". He credits a lot of his success to his manager, Mr. Wong, who is known for taking young talent like Gyptian, and nurturing them to star status. Gyptian grew up in what he calls, "A happy household." According to Gyptian, his Christian mother and Rastafarian father have always influenced him to make up his own mind. "They have always lived lovingly and they never tried to influence us to become Rasta or Christians," said Gyptian in an interview with 'Riddim Magazine'. His father, Basil, exposed Gyptian to dancehall as he was a promoter and had a sound system called 'Feather Tone.' Gyptian is a shortened word for the nickname 'Egyptian' that was given to him after being teased by some friends that saw him with a towel wrapped around his head. The name stuck ever since and so have every single one of his tunes so far. Shock Out!
